Wise Learn To Read Series

Dear Dr. and Mrs. Wise,

Thank you so much for your books. I am 35 years old and my parents taught me how to read by using your books when I was 3 going on 4. My brother also use the books to learn how to read as did my 2 nieces. Now, my 4 year old son is learning to read. It is so exciting watching him "get it" and learn the words. Years ago my father wrote our names and the date on the inside cover as each of us readers finished a book. What a wonderful record.

I was so glad to find your books are still around. I used them to teach my 3 boys when each of them turned four. They all learned to read easily because of your teaching style. All three were reading well by the time they started kindergarten. Some became helpers in class to aid other children who needed help. I have told so many people about your books because it was such a logical way to teach young children to read.

Now I would like to get another set of books for when grandchildren come along. Thank you for your work and contribution to literacy. All Children could use this series!

I am so thrilled to find your website with the Dr. Wise Readers. I learned how to read with these books, and nearly 30 years later I have vivid memories of these books. My father taught me to read with these books, which helped to instill in me a love of reading. I believe these books gave me a head start on learning because I already knew how to read by the time I entered kindergarten. I' m now a lawyer and I use reading comprehension skills each day, which are based on the foundation of reading I developed with the Dr. Wise Readers.

I am excited to have the opportunity to teach my own daughter how to read with these same books. Thank you so much for making them available for the next generation of readers.

About 23 years ago I found a copy of The Dr Wise Learn to Read Series. My son flew through them and quickly went on to other books, as did my daughter. A few years ago I tried looking for replacement copies as mine were extremely worn and falling apart, and was unable to find anything. Today I was telling a friend about the series and hoping it was somehow available somewhere.. So I thought, I wonder if I can find anything... and wahta a wonderful surprise to find your website!

Mr. Wise, my name is Marcella Barnett. I am 60 years old. I bought a set of your books 25 years ago. At that time there were only 10 to a set. My 2 children were 4 & 5 yrs old. They learned to read in 1 day and have a love of reading that has taken them far into adulthood. I ordered a set for my grandchildren about 10 or more years ago and was surprised to find that the set was now 20 per volume + a math set. Once again my grandkids learned to read in a day -- I am so grateful for these books (grandkids are now 15 & 12 years old).

... I just had to write to tell you how much we liked the PHONETIC READERS. As a former first grad teacher I am perhaps better prepared than most to teach a small child to read and to appreciate the care and expertise that went into producing this series. The introductory and back cover remarks seem excellent to me.

My daughter had begun to read on her own individual words … and signs … when I … stumbled across your books in a store. We are now reading ED’S RED BED. Elizabeth will have her third birthday in two months.

When my youngest child was three, I started her on the readers. She picked it up very quickly. My daughter now 6 years old is doing fantastic work in school. According to her teacher, she should be in 2nd grade. Theresa is very interested in math also, your arithmetic books did that. She can add and subtract three columns of numbers and wants to learn her times tables. Keep up these fantastic series.
